Who We Are
What To Expect
We are glad you stopped by our website. Please feel free to take some time and explore our site. If you want to know the core of what Westlake is about, then visit the mission and values tabs above to find out more.
Are you new to Indy? Are you looking for a church home? Have you been wondering, “What does a typical Sunday look like at Westlake?” Let’s stop and answer that question. Perhaps you are new to Indy or Westlake...what could I expect?
First of all, when you walk through our doors (for our 10:15 AM worship), you will be greeted with a warm smile and handshake along with a worship program for our service for the day. There are free coffee and donuts available at “The Way Cafe” right when you enter. We will also provide assistance for you to get your kids (if you have children) to their appropriate location. When you’re ready, we can help you find a seat for worship.
We typically begin with a time of praise to God in song. Worship is led from the front of the room by our Praise Team. You are invited to join in and participate with the songs we sing or you can just be silent and let God minister to you in the moment. The Praise Team and others lead us in song, prayer, reading from God’s Word and the serving of communion (a.k.a. the Lord’s Supper).
The communion is a time we set aside weekly to remember Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross (a death to take away our sin once and for all) and celebrate His resurrection (a moment in time that forever validates our faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior and King). We remember and celebrate this time by passing two symbolic representations to everyone in the room to take and eat: the bread (symbolic of the body of Christ given for us on the cross) and the cup (symbolic of the blood of Christ shed on the cross, which forever takes away our sin). If you consider yourself a “Christ-follower,” then you are invited to share this commemorative “meal” with us.
After the communion, we set aside time for the teaching of God’s Word. Our Lead Minister leads us in an exploration of God’s Word (Bible) to discover life-changing truths that are relevant to our lives today. All are challenged to take “next steps” from this message so that we can stretch our faith and grow more into the likeness of Jesus.
The end of the message leads into a time we call, “The Vine.” This is an opportunity provided each week to connect to Jesus (John 15:5) thru prayer, confession and commitment. As you feel so led, you may come to the front of the room for prayer or to make a commitment to Christ (thru faith and baptism). Or, you may go to the back of the room for a more discreet time of prayer with one of our shepherds (specially chosen men who help pastor the “flock” at Westlake). This time is an opportunity not an obligation. You may choose to simply sing with us during “The Vine” or connect to God privately in a prayer from your seat. Either way, God is there for you.
Next, we will have a few brief announcements that pertain to upcoming events and relevant family news. Then, we continue our worship by receiving the offering. The offering allows us to continue to be a constant servant in our community and fulfill the vision that we believe God has set before us. As a guest, you are not required to give. As the offering trays are passed by you, you can place your “Connection Card” (found inside the worship program) into the tray at that time.
The Praise Team leads us in one final song together, and then we are dismissed.
As a guest, we’ll also have a free gift for you to pick up as you leave. We’ll instruct you on where you can receive it. Also, our Lead Minister will be available after worship to answer any questions you might have. Feel free to stop by “The Way Cafe” on the way out and get another cup of coffee or donut. We’d love for you to stick around and give us the opportunity to meet you.
All in all, that is a typical Westlake Sunday. We also have a 9 AM program for adults, called l.i.f.e. huddles (CLICK HERE for more information) and a full slate of classes and activities for kids and youth (infant thru teen - CLICK HERE to learn more about our Family Ministry) before our Worship each week, if you are interested.
When you come, you will find friendly and merciful people. Westlake is NOT a church of PERFECT PEOPLE. That’s why we need Jesus! And, worship allows us the opportunity to connect with Him, the one we desperately need in our lives. The Christian life is one we do together through life’s ups and downs. We’d love to have you join us on the journey ahead.
We hope we’ll see you SUNDAY!
